About Mel J Wallis

Mel J Wallis lives in Kent and has based her Captain trilogy in the Kent county. She lives in a village on the North Downs with her husband, Andy, and two daughters, Amy and Louise. She shares her home with the family’s two cats, Pickle and Kitty, and the garden with their two rabbits, Toffee and Apple.

She enjoys walking the Kent countryside, deep in thought, contemplating her plotlines and developing her characters. In the summer you will find her stretched out in the sunshine in her garden and in the winter curled up in a comfy chair in front of the fire, always with a book in her hands.

She loves to wander around antique and second-hand book shops, searching for inspiration and treasure. Soaking up the unique musty smell of old books and trying not to spend too much. She has similar problems in a garden centre looking at plants and trying desperately not to bring them home. Her home is packed with books and her garden stuffed with all manner of plants. She constantly tries to declutter the house or the garden in some semblance of order when she takes a break from writing.

She is a passionate volunteer and supporter of several hearing loss charities, in particular Hearing Link and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Living with hearing loss all her life, she is now incredibly lucky to be partnered with her very own Hearing Dog, Lucy, to share her life with.

She was inspired to write ‘The Captain’s House’ after glimpsing a mysterious empty house out of the corner of her eye while driving past on the way to the beach with the children one day. ‘The Captain’s House’ is her first novel and the first in the Captain trilogy.
